How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

One of the top questions Minneapolis drivers ask our service team is “How often should you rotate your tires?” Typically, you should rotate your tires every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, but if you want to know exactly when to rotate tires for your particular model, you should consult with your owner’s manual. Find out more below with Cornerstone Kia today!

Tire Rotation: FWD and RWD Cars

If you have front-wheel or rear-wheel drive, how many miles until your tires get rotated? Since the engine sends the power to the front or rear tires, those tires will wear faster than the rest, so you need to keep up with the rotation to prevent some tires wearing before the others! Remember the following if you have a FWD or RWD car:

  • When to rotate tires? Every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, but use your owner’s manual for the exact numbers.
  • If you plan to do a tire rotation on your FWD vehicle at home, flip the sides during the process (i.e. rear right tire will go to the front left).
  • For an RWD car, you will just invert the direction for FWD vehicles.
  • Be mindful of your driving style as it can impact how many miles until you need to rotate your tires.

Tire Rotation: AWD Cars

What about if you have an all-wheel drive vehicle in the Maple Grove area? Your engine will send power to every wheel, so tire rotations will need to be performed more often (most would require a rotation every 3,000 – 5,000 miles). When it’s time for a tire rotation and you’re DIY-ing it, follow these steps:

  1. The left rear goes to the right front spot.
  2. The right rear goes to the left front spot.
  3. The right front goes to the left rear spot.
  4. The left front goes to the right rear spot.
